I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the input you have provided on the many issues that come before the Commission. I would also like to call your attention to the items below that may be of interest to you and your neighbors.

Sign up for CodeRED® and City News Alerts: City residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED® emergency notifications. This is a high-speed telephone communication service that enables the City to send emergency notifications to registered phone numbers. For details and to enroll, go to www.fortlauderdale.gov/code_red.htm. Registration is fast, free, and easy.

Upcoming Elections: The City held its primary election in conjunction with the National Presidential Preference Primary, on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. This year, the primary was held for the Mayor’s Office and District II, as there were more than two candidates for these seats. Congratulations to Mayor John ‘Jack’ Seiler and Commissioner Charlotte Rodstrom for winning reelection in the primary. The City will hold its next general election on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 (see www.fortlauderdale.gov/clerk/election.htm).

Fighting Neighborhood Crime: Our Police Department continues to hold its informative community-outreach events in District IV on the 2nd Wednesday and Thursday of every month. Upcoming West Sector meetings are set for February 8th and March 14th at the Riverside Park Community Center, 555 SW 11th Avenue. The February 9th and March 8th Meetings, for the East Sector, will be held at the Croissant Park Community Center, 245 West Park Drive. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m., and I encourage you and your neighbors to attend.

• Please remember to keep valuables out of sight in your car while it is unattended. Items such as wallets, purses, GPS systems, and garage door openers will only entice thieves. To review the Police Department’s web page for advice on how to safeguard not only yourself, but also your belongings, go to www.flpd.org/index.aspx?page=72.

• Don’t forget, you can consult www.RAIDSonline.com for reports on crime in your neighborhood.

Getting Around in District IV

• All boat traffic using the Tarpon River between SW 9th Avenue and SW 4th Avenue will be restricted due to bridge maintenance on US 1 until Spring 2012. Boat traffic will still have access to the Intracoastal Waterway during bridge maintenance, and vessels may approach to within 100 feet of the bridge.

• I-595 Express Corridor Improvements Project: See The Express News online at www.i-595.com/index.asp.

• During sanitary sewer and water main improvements, portions of Riverland Road are restricted to LOCAL TRAFFIC only. See the closures and detours Map 1 and Map 2.

Pre-Agenda Meetings: Our meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Monday before a Commission Meeting (unless that Monday is a holiday). The agenda is discussed, as well as any other topics that may arise. On the first Monday of the month, we’re in the 8th Floor Cafeteria at City Hall, and on the third Monday, we’re in the 8th Floor Conference Room at City Hall. Please call the office if you have any questions or need details.
