Congratulations to Mayor John ‘Jack’ Seiler on his reelection in the January 31 primary. Mayor Seiler won with 75% of the vote over two other candidates, thus avoiding the need to run again in the General Election on March 13th. Also reelected were District II Commissioner Charlotte Rodstrom, who also defeated two opponents, and District III Commissioner Bobby DuBose, who was unopposed. District I and our own District IV Commission seats will be determined in the General Election on March 13. Interaction with our local government is encouraged and well-received by the City. Get to know your Mayor and Commission, they are the policy-makers for our communities. We encourage all registered voters to go to the polls and cast your ballot.
The onset of season is well underway and the local traffic has doubled! We see a sharp spike in pedestrian traffic through the neighborhoods and on the surrounding roadways as guest and seasonal residents enjoy the warm weather of South Florida. Be sure to welcome the return of our seasonal community and be helpful to the many tourists that are visiting. We also have noticed a significant growth in the cruise population – all of which goes towards improving our economy!
FPL tells us that the stacks in the port will be gone in the next few years making for a cleaner and safer neighbor. We will be asking FPL to give us much detail as the plans are rolled out.
The Fort Lauderdale Air Show is still working to return this spring and we will keep you advised as the plans are confirmed. St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival will be celebrated on March 10th – so get out your green and come and celebrate!
It is a very busy time of year and we encourage you to take advantage of the diversity of offerings in town.
